The method I use to add distress to my type and letters in Illustrator looks a bit like this:
Step 1: Spend 10-15 minutes searching for a suitable grunge texture.
Step 2: Open up the texture in Photoshop and do some fine-tuning.
Step 3: Copy and paste the texture into Illustrator and run auto trace.
Step 4: Wait for Illustrator to finish auto tracing.
Step 5: Use a clipping mask to try and apply the current vector (and memory-hungry) texture to my type.
After doing all this and then spending a few minutes tweaking a few things, I finally got something I was happy with, but always felt like such a chore to get there!
Frustrated, I started looking for a better way and ended up creating Distress Press, a kit of specially designed graphic styles and movements that allowed me to add wear and tear to my type in seconds.
Now it can be yours!
No more spending precious time finding textures or using clipping masks.
Download Distress Now Press and easily apply Distress in Illustrator for your types and fonts.
